At work a few days later, the dark-haired girl intentionally bumps into Winston and hands him a note. They kiss, and their first attempt at making love is a disappointment. Winston is glad to rebel against the Party, but he has difficulty reigniting physical desire (151). The girl brushes off the sexual failure and tells him her name: Julia. She confirms that her attraction to Winston was based on his face: “I’m good at spotting people who don’t belong.
