Bill Schutt is a distinguished American vertebrate zoologist, author, and professor renowned for his extensive research on bats and his ability to make complex scientific topics accessible to the public. Born in New York City and raised on Long Island, Schutt developed an early fascination with the natural world. Encouraged by his parents, he spent his childhood exploring local woods and wetlands, cultivating a deep interest in biology. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from C.W. Post (now LIU Post), a Master of Arts from SUNY Geneseo, and a Ph.D. in Zoology from Cornell University. ​Schutt’s academic career is marked by his tenure as a professor of biology at LIU Post. He continues to contribute to the scientific community as a research associate at the American Museum of Natural History, focusing on chiropterology (the study of bats). His research led him to study bats worldwide, resulting in over two dozen peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from terrestrial locomotion in vampire bats to the arboreal mating behaviors of marsupial mice. ​
