Frustrated with his inability to work effectively indirectly, Fritz Bauer heads to Israel to meet with members of the Mossad. Arriving in Israel in December of 1959, Bauer has one new, critical piece of information: Eichmann's possible alias in Buenos Aires, which is "Ricardo Klement."This could be the break he is looking for, but he has to first convince the Mossad. Meeting with Isser Harel and Avi Aharoni, one of the Mossad's top agents, Bauer is frustrated at their visible reticence and coolness. However, both Aharoni and Isser are actually astounded and excited by this new information. The decision is soon made that Aharoni will travel to Buenos Aires, in order to verify that "Ricardo Klement" is in fact Eichmann.
On December 6th, Isser Harel is called into the office of David Ben-Gurion, the Prime Minister of Israel. Along with Haim Cohen, the attorney general, Harel reports to the Prime Minister the information he has received from Fritz Bauer. Along with this information, Harel relays a problem: Fritz Bauer, frustrated with the hesitation of the Mossad, has threatened to begin a process of extradition against Eichmann. Both Isser Harel and David Ben-Gurion know this is a bad idea: Eichmann has proven his willingness and ability to escape justice by fleeing to Argentina in the first place, andis likely to try and flee again.
